The shape of the locusts are said to he like unto horses prepared unto battle, descriptive of their strength and formidable appearance. Joel adds also, I hat as horsemen so would they run; like the noise of many chariots on the tops of the mountains shall they leap; like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stub- ble , like a strong people in battle array which refeis to the weak efforts of the nations that would oppose the power given them, and en- deavour to stop their progress.
