The author describes himself on the title-page as 'D[octeur] en Droit et Conseiller à Orbe'. As regards his book, he says in his preface that it contains 'rien que je n'aye éprouvé moi même'. Later he states: 'J'indiquerai comme douteux ce qui sera douteux, et comme certain ce dont je serai certain'.
