The generic name is derived from A:ad-i-dvruckht (Azadcrac/tt of Avicenna), the Persian for the Melia Azederach (Linn.) the l)ek, Common Bead Tree or Persian Lilac of Anglo-Indians ; and the Melia sempervirens, W. or Ban, the Bukayau of the Deccan and Hindoostan, and West Indian Lilac or Evergreen Bead Tree of English writers.
