![friends may have been accuftomed to indulge 5 it is not furprifing, that he ihould have refufed obedience to a command which he mud have regarded « as arbitrary, and perhaps capricious. If we can trud any thing to the re£titude of our own feelings, if we can' conclude any thing from the indignation that was fo warmly expreffed by our friends who were prefent, we cannot perfuade ourfelves, that thofe ho- « nourable and refpcaable Gentlemen, to whom we addrefs ourfelves, diould ic ]y[r _ to have been indiderent on this occafionj or would « cenfure a condua, which only implied a jud fenfe of what he conceived to be indignity# We have not, therefore, the lead reluaance in committing our own dignity, and that of our friend, to the honour and equity of the Managers. Nothing can be a higher proof of our confidence in the im- partiality and candour of that body, than the freedom with which we de- liver our fentiments of the condua of one of its members. We trud that » we have faid nothing inconfident with that high and fincere refpea which we « entertain for the College of Surgeons, which increafes not a little our for- row for an accufation from fo refpeaable' a body. We profefs our inten- ^‘ -tion to pay exaa obedience to the regulations of the Royal Infirmary. We beg leave, finally, to declare our entire approbation of the condua oF .and ourrefolution to fuffer with him.’^ (Signed) Raines MackintoJIo* Richard Millar^ John Hajlam* Henry Luxmore*.
