![suffer until 1 month after her confinement, when she had a succession of fits, from which she rallied. As the mental powers did not appear to be impaired, after having pre¬ viously a month’s trial with her relatives, she was finally discharged. The greater number of the Patients have a probationary period with their relatives or friends prior to their dis¬ charge. Two Patients were obliged to be retained after their being out on trial; the one for having become melancholic and suicidal, the other had become homicidal. They are both in an improved mental condition, but their bodily health is failing. The Patients discharged relieved and not improved were transferred to other Asylums and to their friends. The mortality of the year amounts to 71 deaths, chiefly from Pulmonary Consumption, Bronchitis, Epilepsy, Para¬ lysis, General Paralysis, Maniacal Exhaustion, and Natural | Decay. Ten were upwards of 70 years of age, and one ] was reported to be in her 92nd year. It was considered - necessary fo have Inquests upon two of the Patients who died, one in consequence of her having accidentally fallen i down and fractured her right thigh four months prior to l her death. The other was found dead in her bed.
