This was the most widely used textbook in Universities during the early 17th century on all scientific subjects, including medicine. Many editions were published and used all over Europe. With engraved frontispiece, portrait of the author and 18 engravings in text. Tulpius (1593-1674), a pupil of Paaw, is now best remembered by Rembrandt’s ‘‘ Lesson in Anatomy,’ where he is the central figure. He was a famous anatomist at the time and described as the first the ileo-coecal valve. The third edition of Vesalius’s great work, published four years after his death. The woodcuts are executed by Johann Crieger.
