    a a by systematic examination of the blood of the population of the area in question. As a very small proportion of the cases of elephantiasis come under the notice of the Medical Officers of the Department of Public Health, it would be necessary for the Medical Officers to make specific enquiries of the Omdas as to the occurrence of any such cases, The examination of the blood, taken at night, of the patients im the various hospitals of the Department and also of the inmates of the different prisons would afford valuable information. The detection of the microfilaria presents no difficulty and could easily be carried out on the spot by any Medical Officer possessing a suitable microscope. Where such did not exist, the specimens could be sent to Cairo for examination. In all cases examined, the name, age, sex and place of abode would of course be noted.
