Gamboge acts moft Powerfully on the Humours, and is therefore Prefcribed in Dropfies, and all Watery Corpulency tending to That Unwieldy Diforder. But, as it Works Violently both by Vomit and Stool at the fame time it is Draining the Body of Thofe Redundancies, the Ut- moft Caution is neceffary in the Exhibi- tion of it. Its Roughnefs is Intolerable ; and, though Corrected with all imagina- ble Care and Art, it is Fit only for Per- fons of a Strong Conftitution. What Phy- fical Management can Effect in this re- gard, is Here done, by Means of the Cream of Tartar and Ginger; there be- ing Nothing in the Whole Province of Medicine fo Efficacious in Guarding againft its Stimulating Faculties, and the ' Tumults it might raife, either in the Sto- mach, or Inteftines, as Thefe Two Drugs.
