    a guide to the medical student in facilitating his ac- quaintance with a branch of knowledge, which, con- sidering its practical importance in the improvement of man, and in the prevention and cure of disease, 1s certainly too much neglected, and on which he will not, however disposed, easily find elsewhere the means of obtaining adequate information. Various and extensive additions have been made to the work since it was first published ; and, to in- crease its usefulness as a book of reference, a compre- hensive Index has been annexed. With these im- provements it has also been stereotyped ; and in ful- filment of an intention formerly announced, a treatise on the same general plan, ‘‘ On the Physiology of Di- gestion, considered in relation to the Principles of Dietetics,” was published about five months ago, and is now in its second edition.
