About this work

Description

Drosophila melanogaster (fruit fly) expressing green fluorescent protein (GFP) in the eyes. Drosophila are an extremely useful model organism this is due to their relatively simple genome, the low cost and fast growth of them and the fact that they are easy to maintain. They are used for biomedical research in a variety of fields. GFP is a versatile marker used in biomedical experimentation to investigate protein expression and localization, and monitor transgenic efficiency in in vivo (physiological) models. Width of image is approximately 1 millimetre.
