![From 65 Recommendations of most eminent gentlemen, pro- fessors, &c. I select that of A. Winchell, Professor of Geology, Zoology, and Botany;—he says, “I have examined these Re- cipes, and from my knowledge, either experimental or theoreti- cal, of most of them, and my confidence in Dr. Chase’s careful- ness, judgment, and conscientiousness, in the selection of such Recipes only as are proved useful by trial, I feel no hesitation in saying that they all may be received with the utmost confidence in their practical value.” James C. Watson, formerly Professor of Astronomy, and now Professor of Physics in the University of Michigan, says, “ I have examined your Recipes, and do not hesitate to say, so far as my experience enables me to judge, it is a work which should find its way into every family in the land. The information which it contains could only have been collected by the most careful and long continued research. I heartily recommend your work to the patronage of the public.” And in a similar manner the other 63 gentlemen speak of the wor]c. Then how much more to be recommended is the book now, when it has been so much improved, I humbly trust, bj my experience, practice, and important additions. H. S. LINCON HOWS.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b21298191_0010.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
