Admissions from rheumatic affections annually per 1,000 of mean strength - - - - 50/57 w ve} 30 ne 34} 343 |38|40/46) 49 The reporter directs attention to the fact that rheumatic diseases are less prevalent in the Mediterranean than in Canada and Nova Scotia, and that “though some of the provinces of the Cape of Good Hope have occasionally been without rain for several years, these diseases are more frequent in the dry climate of that command than in the West Indies, where the condition of the atmosphere is as remarkably the reverse: yet have extreme cold and atmospheric vicissitudes, coupled with excess of moisture, been assigned as satisfactory causes for their prevalence.” In the northern division of the United States, it has been seen that rheumatic diseases, like those of the lungs, obey in some measure the inflexions of the isotheral and isocheimal lines. {Norr.—The latitudes and longitudes given in this book are generally taken from ‘I‘an- ner’s Map of the United States.] ERRATA.
