![West HiJLl House, West Hill, EPSOM, Surrey. August, 1962. To the Ohairman and I'fembers of the Dorking Urban District Oounoil Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen, I have the honour to submit an annual report for the year 1961* The request for this is made in Ministry of Health Circular l/62 in which there is reference to Regulations 5 (3) and 15 (5) of the Public Health Officers Regulations. 1959* The report is in a form which meets the requirements of the Ministry as summarised in the letter. The birth rate was slightly higher than last year, as also was the death rate and the infant mortality rate. Nevertheless, the vital statistics for 1961 can be considered satisfactory. With regard to the incidence of infectious disease, there was a large outbreak of measles, part of a nationwide outbreak. Other diseases wore either absent or notified in very small numbers* There is a growing consensus of opinion that cremation is the most satisfactory method of disposal of the dead and there are good reasons for a public health authority to encourage this. Accordingly the Council have agreed to the appointment by the Secretary of State for Home Affairs of the Medical Officer of Health as Medical Referee to the Randalls Park 0romatoriu]3i,Loatherhead. The work done by the Public Health Department in relation to food and housing is to be found in the report of Mr. D. Allan, Chief Public Health Inspector* Ho has dealt also with many other matters of importance and interest. Once again I vdsh to bring to the notice of the Council the conscientious work of all members of the Public Health Department, and the assistance which I have received from the Chief Officers of the other departments of the Council’s administration. I take this opportunity of thanking the Council and partlcularily the Chairman and Members of the Public Health Committee for their continued support and encouragement dtiring the year. I am, Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen, Your obedient Servant, CYRUS IVE, Medical Officer of Health. (3)](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b29165064_0007.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
