History of Surgery, 19th century

Notebook containing memoranda on the history of surgery compiled by an anonymous researcher working in London From the evidence of the handwriting it seems clear that the author was the surgeon John Flint South (1797-1882), who projected a history of English surgery; his work was not published in his lifetime, but edited by D'Arcy Power as Memorials of the craft of surgery (1886). In addition to research notes, the compiler makes a few diary entries, including entries about renewing his library ticket at the British Museum, 1857 (f. 1r.), and visiting the surgeon and antiquary T J Pettigrew in Savile Row, 1850 (f. 126r.).
