    [8 fo much that we directly defifted and returned to the former method a day or two longer, when the pain gradually abated, the carnous appear- ance declined. We then gave him bark, which fucceeded very well, but the iflue was, that the cornea was thickened, the cryftalline from infla- mation became opaque, and he loft his eye. The caufe of this unfortunate cafe was from his hav- ing previoufly a weak eye he wafhed it with his urine, and thus conveyed the infection. OBSERVATION, I found no affiftance in this cafe from any au- thor but Aftruc ; Warner does not mention it in his treatife on the eyes. Aftruc is the only one who does, and he advifes a total difletion away of the flefhy conjunctiva ; how this 1s to be done whilft the patient is in fuch a fituation I know not, but I fear the remedy would be worfe than the difeafe. A venereal ophthalmy is common, but this is the only gonorrhoea of the eye that I have ever feen, or do I know any one who ever faw another. Pd ON ae
