    BOROUGH 0 F LOUGHBOROUGH ANNUAL REPORT OP THE MEDICAL OFFICER OP HEALTH and INSPECTOR OP NUISANCES for the Year ending 31st.December 1918. REPORT OP MEDICAL OFPIOEK OP HEALTH To the Town Council of the Borough of Loughborough. Gentlemen, I have the honour to present to you my Annual Report for the year 1918. In a circular letter issued by the Local Government Board it is suggested that many details usually inserted in the Annual Reports,such as description ox district,particulars of Pater supplies, Sewage disposal etc., might be omitted,and that the Reports need net be printed but preferably typewritten and confined to essential and urgent matters which have affected the Public Health during the year, especially any matters arising from or connected with the 7ar,outbreaks of Infectious Disease,and measures for maternity and child welfare etc. Area in Statute Acres, 3045 population (Census 1911) 22,990 Registrar Generals estimate for 1918,for Death Rate 22,045 for Birth Rate 24,701. No.of inhabited Houses,6056. Average number of persons per house,3*8. INFECTIOUS PISEaSE, Methods of dealing with An Isolation Hospital is provided for cases of Enteric Fever and Diphtheria,aid.where proper isolation cannot be carried out at home,of occasional cases of Scarlet Fever. Disinfection is accomplished by (1) The Steam Disinfector at the Sewage Farm, (2) Fumigation with sulphur and Formic Aldehyde, and (3) spraying with Isal,Formalin, and Perchloride of Mercury. SOLDIERS ENGAGED IN AGRICULTURAL WORK Instructions were received from the County Medical Officer that Soldiers employed on Farm work should be kept under observation as regards infectious cases in the houses, the general sanitary conditions of the houses as regards the light and ventilation,air space and overcrowding and cleanliness of the billet. A large number of these cases v/ere inspected by your Inspector during the year. TUBERCULOSIS. Public Health (Tuberculosis)Regulations 1912. \ This Council has arranged to join the County Scheme for Sanatoria and Hospital treatment.Health Visitors have been appointed to visit and advise all cases of Tuberculosis. The rooms occupied by the patients are period¬ ically disinfected by the Sanitary Inspector with Formalin and when a removal takes place or a death occurs the rooms 1
