    Yenareal Diseases Department. The new Venereal Diseases Department is expected to open early in March ; accommodation is being provided for both In-patients and Out patients and the department has been equipped with the latest apparatus and equipment for dealing with these affections. 15. Ear, Nosa and Throat Department. The work of this department is increasing. Fewer operations have been performed this year owing to the shortage of bed space. X-Ray Department. There has been a consider¬ able increase in the number of cases for X-Ray examination. It has been impossible to deal with all the cases sent for X-Ray examination as, at present, the same X-Ray installa¬ tion has to be used for diagnoses and treatment. The superficial X-Ray treatment has been extremely successful in cases of chronic skin diseases. Library.—The Committee thank Mrs. Lavanchy and her five helpers who attend at the Hospital weekly. More helpers and more books are required in future. Any gifts of modern books will be gratefully received. Parcels of books have been received during the year from the British Red Cross Society and Order of St. John Hospital Library. 18. Extensions. The Nurses’ Home was opened by Mrs. Bolitho on 3rd November, just eleven months after the Foundation Stones were laid. It has been pleasant to notice the gratifying response to the appeal for furniture for the various rooms, though further donations will be welcome. The Committee wish to record the universal admiration expressed by the large number of the public who have visited and inspected the Home. The extensions which were authorised by the Governors two years ago are now practically complete. The Committee feel that the nature and lay-out of the new wards will com¬ mand unqualified approval amongst the general public, and that the provision of what is in effect a fine new Hospital,
