    portance, and many applications for the temporary services of the Asylum attendants have been made to us. Every reason¬ able aid has always been given to those requiring such aid, but hitherto no regular system for sending out nurses has been adopted. An effort has been made during the past year to meet this want. By employing a full staff of servants, it has been found that the assistance required can be granted without inconvenience, and one or more of the more expe¬ rienced attendants allowed to leave the Asylum for a limited time; and, by charging a moderate rate for their services, no loss is incurred by the Institution. In conclusion, it has again to be recorded with thankfulness that no accident or untoward event has occurred, a circum¬ stance in no small degree to be attributed to the able manner in which the attendants and servants of the Asylum have dis¬ charged their responsible duties. Probably no class of public servants deserve greater encouragement than those actually waiting on the insane; and in referring to the satisfactory conduct of those in our employment, I would particularly call attention to the case of Ann Murray, who resigned her situation in September last year. Although occupying but a humble position in the Establishment, namely, that of scullery maid, she nevertheless held this post for the long period of thirty-seven years with trustworthiness and fidelity. Old age and its infirmities, however, beginning to tell upon her, and feeling a strong desire and longing to return home and to be at rest, she insisted on taking her departure, although earnestly solicited to remain. In consideration of her length of service and general good behaviour, the Committee granted her a retiring allowance, to be paid every six months. Eor this she often expressed her deepest gratitude, but did not long enjoy her well-earned annuity, as she died at her native place near Dunkeld within five months of leaving the Asylum.
