    if fome are not new, they are recom- mended by an air of novelty; if whim fhould appear to have didlated others, it was the whim of humanity; and what may be deemed rafh will be found to flow from the fervour of indignant honefty, or the exultations of benevolence. Acute and perfpicuous, they are not infedted by the cant of feels, or circumfcribed by .local notions, but general as the pafiions and feelings of the race. It is the intention of the editor to add Another volume of Aphorisms on Art, WITH CHARACTERS AND EXAMPLES, not indeed by the fame author, which the reader may expedt in the courfe of the year. May, 1788.
