![and Castor oil on the morning of the eighth, which finally relieved her by the very free evacnation produced. 9th. Missed her chill, and sitting up. 1830. Case. Mrs. . Sept. 20th, Some days since, was stung by a musquifo on the little toe ; the foot swelled enormously. She poulticed it with bread and milk and sweet oil. Used the warm bath. The foot on the 20th of September subsided, inflammation vanished, and she could walk pretty well. In the night she was taken with a fever ; great pain in the groin and over the left eye. Disposition to sleep this morning, at 9 o'clock ; face flushed ; pulse full and quick ; slight moisture on the skin. Cap. Calomel, gr. v. statim, and one hour, p.m.. Cap. Sal. amar. 3SS. Evening. The calomel did not operate; the salts were taken, and operated most copiously ; some appetite this evening; pain in the thigh of the afi'ected side gone, and she feels much better. 21st. Well. 1819. Case. Spider bite. Gaby, a servant. June 23d. Bitten below the knee, and near the groin, in the night, by a spider probably. R. 01. oliv. 31; Sp. c. c. Rub with it the thigh and knee. R. Opii, gr. i.; Camph, gr. ij.; Sp. lav. q. s. Ft. pil. To be taken in one hour, if not relieved by liniment. 24th. All the volatile liniment was expended in friction, and he took the pill. At 8 this morning, felt great pain around the loins and waist. To take some sweet oil; gave a wine-glassful. At 10 o'clock felt better, or a little easier ; kept the oil on the stomach. 25th. Pain now in belly; none in loins; rested pretty well; costive ; eaten bread and molasses for breakfast. 26th. Had a fine passage yesterday, and belly quite easy. Recovered perfectly in a few days. Case. Spider bite. Marie, a servant. June 21st. R. Ammo- nise, gr. xxiv.; Aqua3 menth., =1]. Cap. coch, o. 2 h. This medi- cine had no eflect. She was given in my absence, 3iij. or iv. of brandy, with water ; at two, a pill containing two grains of opium. At 8 o'clock, feeling a load in the stomach all day, she puked up all the contents of the stomach, oil, hogs-lard, &c., which she had taken ; pain in feet great, in the knees and head. At half-past eight, gave Opium, gr. i., and Camphor, gr. ij.; at eleven, the same dose, and directed one at two, and one at six if necessary. 22d. Has taken no pill since 11 o'clock last night; has puked; complains much of the wrist, where she was stung; and the feet, which are so cold that warm bricks are kept constantly applied ; has had a good nap of sleep since 9 o'clock —now half-past one ; has taken nothing since yesterday morning.
