    A BOOK ON STOMACH DISEASES. Diseases of the stomach and digestive organs are so very common | have thought it useful to put in book form my knowledge on these troubles. Nearly all our digestive disorders arise from wrong foods, im- proper drinks, &c., and their only cure consists in correct living and avoidance of wrong things. The first six chapters treat of the digestion of food in the mouth, stomach, and intestines; explains how it takes place, and give a table of the time taken by various foods to digest. Two articles deal with the appetite; show what is the cause of loss of appetite, and how to cure oneself of a great craving for food. The next five chapters are about belchings, risings, waterbrash, acidity of the stomach, and wind in the stomach, and tell how to cure these troubles. One article deals with vomiting, and gives its cause and cure. The com- plaint of spasms of the stomach has a chapter all to itself. Acute catarrh of the stomach in babies, children, adults, occupies considerable space; this complaint is commonly called Acute Dyspepsia. Chronic Gastric Catarrh, commonly called Indigestion, is dealt with in a long article, for it is a very prevalent disorder of the stomach. Wasting of the stomach, and contraction of the stomach, occupy two chapters. Two articles deal with dilatation of the stomach, a troublesome but not in- curable complaint. Neuralgia and sensitive stomach are dealt with in two articles. Lastly, cancer of the stomach is written about; it is one of the most prevalent forms of cancer, and all but incurable. This book should be read by all, more especially by sufferers. It gives the cause, symptoms, and cure of most stomach diseases. It is sent post free for Is. 2d. by the author. A BOOK ON RHEUMATISM. Rheumatism is a very common complaint in the British Isles, scarcely a person but has twinges of it at some time or other. This booklet goes carefully into the causes of it, gives the symptoms of the acute and chronic varieties, and the proper treatment. In the first chapter it is shown that rheumatism and rheumatic affections are on the increase, and the reasons for this increase are given. The next chapter treats of the causes, shows they are the excessive use of flesh, the use of stimulants, tobacco, strong tea and strong coffee, and neglect of health rules. A chill, wetting through, a draught, and all the usually accepted causes are proved not to be the real origin of the complaint, only the starting cause. The third chapter treats of acute rheumatism, commonly known as rheumatic fever, and gives its symptoms and their duration. The next chapter tells the various complications which may arise during or after the acute attack. Then follows a chapter on the rational treatment of rheumatism by which the acute attack is cut short, relapses prevented, and the poison got out of the body. The drug and stimulant treatment is shown to be useless, and even very dangerous. A person left to him- self will suffer less and come out better than if given doctors’ poisons. The last chapters treat of chronic rheumatism, muscular rheumatism, and joints that become affected by rheumatism after a sprain. Every sufferer should read the book, and if he will put into practice the advice given he can cure himself. The book has been the means of curing thousands.
