Disease began 18 months ago after an injury. Has been treated at various hospitals, but elbow has lately got worse,in spite of rest M. G., Tubercular family his- ret. 6, tory. The disease ol female, the left elbow-joint K. C. H., has been noticed for admitted the last 3 mouths, Dec. 3rd, attributed to a fall. 1890. No treatment Diagnosis.— Disease of elbow-joint with abscess Condition before injection. Internal organs healthy. Right elbow- joint 1$ inches larger than the other, measured over bend of elbow; the chief swelling is on outer side of arm, espe- cially over the head of the radius. The movements of flexion and extension are limited and pronation and supination are impossible. There is pain on movement (Before the Koch period I would have persevered with expectant treatment for some time, but I believe that complete arthrectomy would ultimately have been necessary) Internal organs healthy. There iB general thickening of I he synovial membrane of the left elbow-joint, but not very mark- ed. Great rigidity of the joint; hand completely pronated. Pain on attempt- ing movement, also tenderness on pres- sure on the elbow. There is a small abscess the size of a hazel-nut over the back part of the head of the radius; no fluid in the joint.
