![of paresis, accompanied with violent pains in tlie limbs. These symptoins liad lasted for a year. The riglit arm was tlie last limb wliicli was at- tacked. “For two years sbe lias lived in an unhealthy dwelling wliicli opened out on a court. Slie lias always liad a sufficiency of food. Treatment lias liitherto consisted in tlie employment of infusions of walnut leaves, and tlie syrup of Portai,1 and gargles of blackberry leaves. “ On examination, there was found on a level with tlie movable portion of tlie soft palate, on tlie médian line, an ovoid ulcération, with its long axis in tlie antero-posterior direction, having a lengtli of two centimètres, and four or five millimétrés in breadth. The borders of the ulcération were covered with fungous granulations, and presented a slight degree of in- flammation. The lésion did not produce any disturbances in déglutition, respiration, or phonation. “ The ganglia of the neck were tlie seat of a slight degree of liypertro- phy. Tlie general liealtli of the patient was fairly good ; tlie face was anæmic. “ The treatment instituted was by the iodide of potassium. Tlie in- gestion of tlie drug was proved by the examination of the urine. From the 17th to tlie 29th of October the doses were gradually increased from 2 to 6 grammes (30 to 90 grains) per diem. On November 12th, 4 grammes (60 grains) were given, and on December 14th this was further eut down to 2 (30 grains) as the daily dose. “ The action of the drug was very rapid. On January lOth only a small fistulous opening was left. On the 17th the patient left the hospi- tal, having no other symptoms beyond some ojiacities of the cornea.” In this case it will be noted that the child was not seen until after the ulcération had become established, so that no account could be given of the early appearance of the lésion. Besides this trouble in the throat, there were other manifestations, such as crusts on the scalp, keratitis, cepli- 1 Sirop de Portai.
