$for thefe purpofes, which they called, the Sweet ’l^ear of the Thiftle; and the Italians, at this time, pradlife the fame me¬ thod ; and call the gum Cera di Cardo. The whole root gives its flrength to this tin6tnre ; and the efFedls will lliew it. But thofe are its leifer virtues: it is ftomacliic and aromatic, good againfh wind ; it deftroys worms in children: in the Flying Gout, no medicine equals it in fafety, or fuccefs; and tho’ no aftringent, it cures Dyfenteries. Its good effedls in this particular indance are fo great, that they have been counted on as miracles: and the pious, of a different perfuafion from our own, have believed the report, that they were firft difcovered by an angel. For Broken Constitutions.' VERONICA, or SPEEDWELL DROPS; for ftrengthening weakened conftitutions : whether im¬ paired by long illnefiTcs, or hurt by too free living ; or from ill-cured difeafes. It gradually opens obftrudlions of the Vifcera ; and reftores them, fo far as can be done, to their 'former tone, and ftrength. To promife a cure, where thefe are abfolutely deftroyed, were vain ; but in all cafes, where they are capable of being reftored to their offices, thefe Drops will accompliffi it. They are cordial, ftrengthening, and aperient. They have the virtues of Steel, without its danger ; are certain to relieve weaknefs, anxiety, and pain ; and raife the fpirits, without heating the body. Thofe who have a dry fkin ; with flufhings in the cheeks; heat after meals, and fudden fweats ; a dry tongue, weak pulfe, and high-coloured urine; with weaknefs and waft¬ ing : no relifh for food, nor refreffiment from fteep; who have weakening difeharges, deep cogghs, and night fweats : will find every fymptom relieved, in the courfe of a few days; and health and ftrength increafe, as the medicine is continued.
