    [ 86; ] Another material objection to the old practice is, that the eyes, though cleaned every day, were feldom opened or exa- mined before the elapfe of a week. What- ever accidents occur in this period, muft continue without the poffibility of relief. Thus a fmall portion of the pulpy fub- jftance of the cataradt, which fometimes remains within the eye, by getting be- tween the divided edges of the cornea, obftrudt its re-union, render it opaque, and not unfrequently produce inflamma- tion on the iris itfelf, which, contradling, entirely defeats the intention of the ope- ration. Another inconvenience attendant on the neglect, of daily examination is, that when the inciflon has been extended beyond the margin of the cornea unto the con- junctiva, which frequently happens, and is in many cafes highly advifeable, the aqueous humour is apt to infinuate itfelf into the interftices of the cellular mem- brane, connedting that coat to the fcle- rotica,
