    2 2. The Report deals with the plains districts of the Province. The staple „ . _ f diet of the Province is rice. The decline in the price of food-grains is due to trade depression. The Provincial birth-rate fell to 30*26 as compared with 30*62 in the previous year and the death-rate rose to 21*41 as compared with 19*64 in 1934. CHAPTER II. VITAL STATISTICS. (Including population and Emigration and Immigration.) 3. The report deals with the plains districts of the province, the population of _ , _ _ which, according to the Census of 1931, was 7,927,953 Genera] Census figure,. (4,187,085 males and 3,740,868 females). As in pre- vious years, the birth and death-rates have been calculated on the Census popula¬ tion of 1931 without taking into consideration the growth of population during the year. The appended table shows the corrected population of each district under registration and indicates what the birth and death-rates would have been if they were calculated on the corrected population :—- Table ‘ D ’for the year 1935.
