    20 The following Table gives the marriage rate for the years 1895 1904, and the average rate for the decade:— Year. During the year, 1421 births were registered, a decrease of 24 as compared with 1445 registered in the previous year. Of the total, 723 were of male, and 698 of female children. The birth-rate was 16∙1 per 1000 of the population, as compared with the rate of 16∙7 per 1000 in 1904, and 18∙5, the average for the years 1895-1904.
