    THE FACTS OF LIFE END-PAPERS Each page shows 24 chromosomes or 12 potemial pairs; the two smallest chromosomes are unpaired, five pairs have one chiasma, two pairs have two, one pair has three, and one has four, chiasmata. In addition, two pairs have suffered an interchange, and have five chiasmata between them. One pair, with a nucleolus at the end, has one of its chiasmata between two relatively inverted segments. Finally, one chromosome has been broken near one end and the sister halves have reunited on both sides of the break. The dots at the ends of all the chromo¬ somes are their centromeres.
