![To the Ohaiman and Members of the Grimsby Rural District Council# Lady and Gentlemen, I have the honour to present the Annual Report on the Health and Sanitary Conditions of the Grimsby Rural District for the year 1944# The health of the community as reflected in the vital statistics continues to be satisfactory# The Birth Rate was 18#3 per thousand of the population, which is an increase of 1#1 on the rate for 1943. The corresponding rate for England and Wales was 17#6# The Death Rate per thousand of the population was 9*2 being 2^0 lower than in 1945 and 2#4 lower than the present rate for England and Wales# The Infant Mortality Rate was per thousand live births, as compared with 46cO for England and Wales, and is the lowest recorded during f5.va years of war# Notifications of infectious diseasoj c:/:olud5-ng tuberculosis, wore fewer than in 1943# No cases of diphtheria v/ere notified during the year# Building Sites for the now housing programme wore selected by the Local Authority during the year and submitted to the Ministry of Health for approva].* Two cases of overcrowding of dwellinghouses Yv'ere reported during the year# These were remedied and no cases were known to exist at tho end of the yoarn I am indebted to tho Chairman and Members of the Council and to the Clerk for their interest and support in the work throughout the year# My thanks are also due to my Sanitary Inspectors and other members of tho staff for their assistance in compiling this report# I have the honour to be.
