![1256. Blue-green glazed steatite Scarab, of type D 5-G 2, with legs roughly blocked out. On the base is inscribed the prenomen ofTHOTHMES III, in a transverse label, between two borders, derived from the name of the god Ptah, or the sign 9, “ protection ”: the whole surrounded by a hatched border. D'A thanasi Collection, 1837. XIXth dynasty, or later. Length, T9F in. [No. 16742.] 1257. Glazed steatite Scarab, of type F i-G 2, faded to brown. On the base is inscribed , between two borders with design developed from “ Beloved of Men-kheper-Ra,” the name of Ptah V Rough work. XIXth-XXth dynasty. Length, § in. [No. 4194.; 1258. Glazed steatite Cowroid, faded to grey, with a hatched line round the sides and a cross-hatched ornamentation at one end. On the base is the prenomen ofTHOTHMES III, between two borders, of the type (lOXIl) derived from the name of Ptah ^ jjj. XIXth- XXth dynasty. Length, in. [No. 46802.] This border, which is common in Scarabs of the XIXth-XXth dynasty, is a curious example of degenera- tion of hieroglyphs into mere decorative lines. Cf. an example in the Cairo Museum of Rameses II (No. 36267 of Newberry’s Catalogue) for the degeneration in process. 1259. Glazed steatite Scarab, of type L 4. On the base is inscribed the prenomen of THOTHMES III, in a cartouche, between two iuaat-fea.thers, below the name of the god Ptah with uraei. The glaze has been entirely worn off. XIXth-XXth dynasty (Delta style). Length, f in. [No. 3972.] 1260. Blue glazed steatite Scarab, partly faded to white, of type A 4. On the base are the name of Amen-Ra, corruptly written, and the prenomen of THOTHMES III, in a cartouche, between two neb-s\gns. Chipped. XXth-XXIInd dynasty (?). Length, f in. [No. 46915.] AA/WVN o w’ {sic), a Men- 1261. Blue glazed steatite Scarab, faded to white, of type G 1, inscribed (j faulty form of the name of Amen-Ra, with the prenomen of THOTHMES KHEPER-Ra, jg . New Kingdom : after the XVIIIth dynasty. Length, § in. [No. 40321.] 1262. Glazed steatite rectangular Plaque, faded to brown. On the obverse is inscribed “ Ment[u] as a protection.” On the reverse is the prenomen of THOTHMES III, s 1 with a large //z^-feather. Nacreous glaze. XXth-XXIInd dynasty. Glazed steatite Scarab, faded to brown, of type A 3, inscribed with two lines of hieroglyphs, containing the names of Horus, Ra, Bast, part of the royal name Men-KHEPF.r-[Ra], etc. XXIlnd-XXVIth dynasty. Glazed steatite Plaque, faded to brown, with a single line round the sides, and convex back, on which is cut the prenomen of THOTHMES III, in a plumed cartouche, within a beaded border.
