That your Petitioners have observed with satisfaction the introduction to your Honourable House of a Bill entitled the “ Infectious Diseases (Prevention) Bill,” the provisions of which relating to milk supply they regard as a necessary supplement to the existing law for the protection of the public against infectious diseases from cattle. That your Petitioners are of opinion that the other provisions of the Bill also are essential to the proper protection of the public against infectious disease. That your Petitioners desire humbly to suggest an amendment of clause 5 of the Bill by empowering Medical Officers of Health to examine cattle as well as inspect sheds, &c., in places beyond their districts from which there is reasonable cause for believing that infection is conveyed or likely to be conveyed to their districts by means of the milk or flesh of cattle. Your Petitioners therefore humbly pray that in view of the great importance to large towns like Manchester and Salford of complete protection against infectious disease, your Honourable House will pass into law the “ Infectious Diseases (Prevention) Bill.” And your Petitioners will ever pray, &c.
