(1 death). EPIDEMIC PAROTITIS. Eighteen patients were admitted to hospital provisionally diagnosed as mumps and in 4 of these the following diagnoses were substituted :—Submental abscess (1) ; non-specific parotitis (1) ; acute nephritis (1) ; cervical adenitis (I). Twenty-eight cases notified as anterior poliomyelitis were admitted to hospital during the year, and in these the diagnosis was confirmed in 20. In addition, t\\'o patients admitted with the provisional diagnosis of meningococcal meningitis were found to be suffering from poliomyelitis, making a total of 22 cases. The following diseases were noted in the cases in which the diagnosis as notified was not confirmed :—catarrhal jaundice (2) ; acute osteomyelitis (2) ; acute rheu- matism (1) ; contusion of left knee (I) ; pyrexia of unknown origin (1) ; and no obvious disease (1).
