The Author intro¬ duces his Recommendation of Chalybeate Waters in thofe Cafes by thefe Words, (which the Analyft omits) “ Let us confider their Operation as a corro- “ boratingor aflringent Medicine which as they undoubtedly are, if they be prefcribed properly, and with the fame Regard to neceffary previous Evacuations as other aftiingent Medicines ought to be, muft prove of Service in thefe Haemorrhages, as in Fa<ft, in the Courfe of the Hiftories of the ChalybeateWaters, in divers pofitiveExamples, they have been oblerved to be j as likewife they have been in numerous lnftances in other Haemorrhages, as Dyferneries, and the Menfes nimii, from a hot and-fharp Bload, as well as in the fcorbutic Hae- moptoe, mentioned by Dr. Leigh, cited in the iame Page in the Synopjis, and moreover in the phihifical Haemoptoe they are particularly recom¬ mended by Moreton, lib. 3. c. 5. of his Phthifiologia in thefe Words: “ In ftatu phthifico haemoptico, ubi fc. fanguinis aeftus a motu inteftino non ita “ vehemens elTe folet, aquae minerales Chalybeatas cc magni funt ufus modo per longum tempus, par- ‘c va tamen quantitate fmgulis diebus hauriantur.” All which may fuffice to Ihew the lingular Bold- nefs, rather than the Learning, of our Critic, who with half an Eye can difcover Errors and Defeats in all his Cotemporaries.
