Prayer is a devout lifting up of our fouls to God in faith and hope, to implore his bleffing, and comprehends adoration, confetiion, pe- tition, and thankfgiving. As to adoration, what can be more reafonable, or becoming our condition, than to adore him to whom we owe all our comforts: ‘That eternal being, of infinite wifdom, power, and goodnefs, from whom we derive our exiftence, and upon whom alone we depend for every good thing that we either enjoy or ex- pect.
