'I’lieso braces have boon dosignocl to prevent tlie occurrence of po.st- op('ration paralysis in tlio arms, and to keep tlie arms from getting in the way of tlie operator. ^'I'lie apparatus consists of two parts :— ^ (I) That which passes beliind the back. Tliis strap has two loops of fixed size whicli are placed over the arms, just above the bend of the elbow. 'I'hey fit loosely but are drawn tight by means of a buckle attached at the junction of one loop with the back strap. By means of this strap the arms are fi.xed to the side and prevented from being moved forwards, il (2) That which psisses rouml the nock, and terminates in two loops which are tightened by means of buckles round the wrists. There is a buckle also on the strap pa.ssing roimd the neck, by means of which the hands are drawn up to the right level. There is also a ero.ss strap between the wristlets to j)revont se|)aration of the hands. W hen the braces are prop(a'ly adjustt'd, the arms and hands are fixed almost immovably, but without undue jiressun' on any one part.
