Broadheath The scheme prepared by the Council’s Consulting Engineer for the sewering of the Tihole of the parish T/as the subject of a Local Enquiry by the Ministry of Health, Later the Council were informed by the Ministry that the installation of the scheme YYOuld have to be deferred indefinitd'l.y but that a poilion of it could be installed to serve the School, The Council considered that the eorea where a long-standing nuisance was being caused by untreated sewage being discharged into ponds and ditches also Yirarranted similar treatment and permission has now been given for an a.dditional sev/er to be laid in this ai'ea. The necessary draYrings and documents ane in course of pipara.tion. Clifton-on-Tcme, Pollo’v/ing complaints by adjoining owners of the pollution of a stream and pond used for cattle Y/alering by the effluent from the irrigation field, a detailed scheme for treatment Y/orks Y/as prepared. The estimated cost of the Y/-orks Y/a^ £7^500 and the scheme wo.s approved by the Council and submitted to the Ministry of Health, Hartley The scheme for the enlargement of the SeYrage Treatment 'forks and the laying of sev/ers in the Jury Lane are ax v/as approved by the ttinistry and Y/ork was commenced on the 29th August, Although it Y/as estimaled that the Yrork Yrauld be completed Y/ithin 3 months, by the end of the year there was still much to be done. Bad Y/cather conditions and the presence of Y/aler, running sand, and rock all contributed to the sIoyy progress, but the main difficulty was the lack of an aidequate labour force. At the request of the County Council a preliminary invest¬ igation Y/as carried out for the extension of the Jury Lane Se\/er for the benefit of property ovned by them.
