    34 subsidence of the small-pox outbreak. The deaths from this cause had been no less than 2,367 in 1881, but fell to 431 in 1882. Small-pox. In Paddington there were no deaths from small pox. Six cases were removed to the hospitals, viz.:—1, that of a non-parishioner, was sent from St. Mary's Hospital to Deptford; 1 from St. John's, and 1 from St. Mary's Sub-district to Highgate; and 3 from St. Mary's Sub-district to Homerton. Measles. Measles caused in London 2,329 deaths, being in the proportion of 0.60 to 1,000 inhabitants. In Paddington there were 71 deaths, of which G3 occurred in St. Mary's Sub-district, and 8 in St. John's, giving a rate of 0.65 per 1,000; a rate greatly in excess of those during the years 1875-83, with the exception of that in the year 1876, when there were 91 deaths. Scarlet Fever. Scarlet fever caused in London 2,004 deaths, giving a rate of 0.52 per 1,000 inhabitants. In Paddington there were 22 deaths, a lower number than in any one of the last eight years, giving a rate of 0.2 per 1,000. Forty cases were removed to the
