    prefcriptions, however, which was for him to lie down on the earth with his face over a newly dug hole for an hour or two daily, finding his breaft opened, cooled, and refreflied,-and his fpirits and ftrength confiderably recruited, although little, or not at all better, in regard to all his other dreadful complaints,—the whole diforder, or great mafs of obitrudtion, hardnefs, rawnefs and difeafednefs in his body remaining unmoved and untouched: and every time he made water, or rather the bloody matter and fand, he found himfelf confiderably weaker and weaker: and the Patient, his wife, his neighbours, and myfelf expected no other than very fpeedy, and abfolutely inevitable death ; and not knowing what more to do for him, I directed him to be ftriped totally naked, and put into a frefh made hole in the earth, and clofely covered up witii the earth to his chin, and to remain there for three hours each time, and this to be continued daily without intermifiion. Finding the greateft and mod unexpe&ed relief from this total immerfion in the earth, fo early as the fecond day, he moft: joyfully and thankfully continued to be buried in the Earth not omitting one day, for feven or eight weeks, even in the many fevere and long continued rains which happened in the time, being the months of Auguft and September, which are generally very rainy in that part of the country. At the end of two months he found himfelf moft perfectly free from every part and fymptom of difeafednefs making with eafe plenty of good natural water ; flveping well ; eating and drinking with appetite and advantage ; pofTcfling good fpirits, his ufnal ftrength, and a fine florid completion ; and in a word entirely freed from all fwellings, pain, forenefs and weaknefs, He was moft perfectly cured, root and branch, of the very complicated, obftinate, and moft hoptlefs malady, which he had fo long laboured under.—And when I was at Liverpool the following fummer, he came from Warrington with gratitude and joy to fee me, and appeared pure, plump, androfy, and enjoyed the moft perfect health. z. The daughter of Mr John James, in Carlifie, was affliifted and rendered a total cripple by the firrinking and wafting of her thigh and leg, and a monftrous fwelling of her knee, attended with pain, rednefs, and contraction, infomuch that after all advice, medicines, and applications being ufed in vain, her life was endangered, and the cure of her limb, was totally defpaired of.—In two months fry my advice, medicines, and applications, efpecially by fitting up to her ftomacli among frefh earth for three hours every day, her flefh, looks, and fpirits are fo wonderfully recovered, the pain, fwelling, and contraction, are fo far cured, and the whole limb is become fo ftraight and ftrong, that fire now runs about without crutch, flick, or any other help whatever, to the very great joy of her very affectionate and now happy parents, friends, and neighbours. p A young man of the name of PERKINS, in Carlifie, who had been a cripple for feveral years of a very great white fwelling of his knee, and decay of the whole kmb, was likewife fo happy as to be fo far freed from the pain, fwelling, wtak- rtefs, contraction, &c. chiefly by means of the Earth Bath, as now to find his limb almoft entirely ftraight, and to walk about brifkly either with, or without a little flick.—He gave me the particulars of his cafe in writing, but I have either loft or miflaid it. 4. A young child, inthat city, was likewife cured by Earth-bathing, of gather¬ ings and vnft diicharges of corrupted matter from its loins and back, which had reduced it to a ghaftlv fkeleton. The daughter of Mr W. WIGHT, at the foot of Caftle-Strect, Carlifie, aged 1?, fell down e;ght years ago in a croud, when a foldier, running, by accident violently kicked her fnoulder, which occafioned fuch a conftant and violent pain, as fhrunk in her fhoulder, and wafted her arm to a kind of dry cold flick ; and exceedingly afteCted all the right fide, from the very top of her head, with fuch a paralytic deadnefs and vveaknefs, that ftie could not raife her hand to her head.—She was all laft year a patient at the Carlifie Difpenfary but all that time (occafioned, by their medicines, her mother feemed certain) fhe was affiic- ted with moil fevere fits at leaft once a fortnight, and fometimes many in one day, efpecially
