    6g and to perform all necessary operations. Accordingly on ist September, the services of Mr. W. Maxwell Munby, F.R.C.S., became available. The number of patients suffering from ear conditions following scarlet fever was sufficiently large to justify the setting aside of a small ward for their treatment. In the middle of October, an ear ward was opened with a sufficiently large staff to enable a con¬ centrated attack to be made on the complication. Additional assistance was given in the provision of a small theatre in the ward which might be available for operations and for routine treatment of ears. By the provision of special blinds, the theatre may be utilised for dark room examinations, such as trans-illumination of the antra. Sufficient time has not elapsed for the benefit of this appoint¬ ment to be fully appreciated, but a study of the following figures reveals a promising outlook. Patients have been grouped according to the time of the occurrence of the ear complication, the first group extending to 31st August, and the second from ist September, the latter group January to August.
