About this work

Description

Dr Ellis Tinios suggests that such prints as this are valuable evidence for the use of ceramics

It is a hot summer's day. The character has stripped off his kimono which hangs over the screen behind him. On the floor before him a meal of cold noodles is set out on a red lacquer tray. Dipping sauce is in the two cups to the right of the large plate. Sake is in the tall bottle. A fan, ashtray and smoking tray are on either side of him
