    88 through the wards, I am convinced that they undoubtedly have an attractive influence on the patients, and are really of great use, in speaking, through the outward senses, to many who could not be reached—at all events to the same degree—in any other way. The Bishop of Gloucester and Bristol, on a recent occasion, inspected the Church, and warmly expressed his approval and admiration of it. During the past year books have been distributed regularly once a month through the wards. I beg leave, however, to observe that a fresh supply of suitable books is greatly needed. Of the 240 vols. now in the Library, nearly half are, from long-continued use, in a more or less dilapidated condition—many of them totally unfit for further circulation. It is, therefore, very desirable that these should be replaced by others, and I feel sure, now that the want is made known, you will at an early date provide a remedy for it.
