When we arrived at the MILt- House, which was fituated on the fame river, which I had paffed over with fo much . eafe, we firft entered a large hall, or outward room, where many inhabitants of the coun- try were impatiently waiting to know, what work was to be done that day ; what quan- tity of paper was to be manufactured ; for what purpofe the fame was to be difpofed of ; whether the Mitt was fufficiently fupplied ; whether any new collectors were to be ap- pointed ; where they were to be {tationed , whether the Banp was docile and obedient : what vacancies and changes had lately hap- pened among them, &c. &c. From hence I was conduéted into the ftore-room, where the materials, of which the paper was made, were depofited, and prepared. Great heaps of the fineft linnen rags were forted for this purpoie,
