Advice to mothers, on the subject of their own health, and of the means of promoting the health, strength, and beauty of their offspring (Online)
Description
This popular treatise on the management of pregnancy, delivery and the health and rearing of children was issued in four more American editions between 1807 and 1815, again at London in 1811, and was appended to several American editions of the author's 'Domestic Medicine'. Upon completing his medical studies at Edinburgh, Buchan settled in Yorkshire where in 1759 he was appointed medical officer to the recently opened Foundling Hospital at Ackworth. It was there he wrote his M.D. thesis (De infantum vita conservanda) and acquired his interest and skill in treating the diseases of women and children displayed in both the 'Advice to Mothers' and the 'Domestic Medicine'.
