MANUSCRIPT ON THIN VELLUM by an Anglo-Norman or English scribe (400 Ul. 7 by 5 in.) written in neat gothic etter, double columns, 56 lines, rubricated, ruled in blue throughout, running head titles and sections in blue and red, NUMEROUS SMALL ILLUMINATED HISs- TORIATED INITIALS, and ornamental pen-letters with marginal decorations, new crushed black morocco, plain, DOUBLE with the same with gold fillets, joints, rough edges, by “ the Clubs Bindery,” 1902, enclosed in a black morocco slip case 8vo. initio SHC. XIV A WELL-WRITTEN, PERFECT AND WELL-PRESERVED ANGLO-NOR- MAN MS. in fine condition, with very interesting historiated initials. The text includes the First and Second Books of the Maccabees. pliciqz repertorio insignita ; cui ultra castigationem diligentissimam & signanter in Vocabulario dictionum hebraicarum ubi per maiori sui parte erat mendosa & vitiosa, ete. lit. goth. dowble columns, title in red and black, with device (painted), numerous historiated initials painted red throughout, contemporary binding in oaken boards, black leather, clasps, scarce edition thick 8vo. Cest le proheme de cellui qui mist cest livre de latin en francois,” ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM (531 UW. 18 by 13 tn.), finely written in semi-gothic letter, double columns of 52-54 lines, rubricated, margins of nearly every page decorated with floreate branch scrolls in gold and colours ; several hundred large and small finely painted and richly deco- rated initials, with marginal elongations ; and 312 SPLENDID SQUARE MINIATURES (4 by 3 in.) FINELY PAINTED AND RICHLY ILLUMINATED, 2 vol. thick boarded purple morocco, plain, by Belz-Niedrée large folio. SC. Xv A FINELY WRITTEN AND SPLENDIDLY ILLUMINATED MS. THE MINIATURES BEING BY A FRENCH ARTIST OF GREAT SKILL. They are remarkable for the accurate delineation of the costume, Ecclesiastical, Civil and Military, Architecture and Domestic Manners and Customs of the period. Many interior Bedroom Scenes, Birth and Death Chambers, etc. are vividly depicted. The Battles of the Israelites, representing men in armour with banners and devices, are very spirited ; and altogether the MS. is of first-rate importance and in fine condition.
