The last sign —is interchanged with 1, and we may thus write under the hieroglyphics the values as follows:— K I S R S that is to say Katcapo; or Caesar. From the different ways in whieh the name of Ptolemy is written we learn that ^ = U, and that has also the same value, and that has the same value as c—, i. e., M, is also apparent. Now we may consider a common Greek name which is Avritten in hieroglyphics ( J Ave may bi’eak it up thus :— J 4. /VWSAA 8. 9. o O Of these chai’actei’s Ave have already identified Nos. 2, 3, 5, 7, 8 and 9, and from the tAvo last Ave know that AAm are dealing with the name of a royal lady.
