    nature of a true hemicrania. It is in this respect closely related to colocynth and nux vom. Under colocynth, however, the motory nerves of the face are not affected ; under brvonia those branches of the superior facial nerve which supply the temporal and maxillary region are not unfrequently affected. [Oester, Zeitsch-ift.^^ Knorre says that bryonia is adapted to headache involving the frontal and temporal region, pressing, crowding from within outward, as if the head would burst, with sharp stitches so violent that the patient screams, caused by cerebral congestion, and aggra- vated by stooping, motion of the head, coughing and sneezing. Bryonia relieves the burning or pressing pains, with a feeling, when stooping, as if the contents the cranium were being crowded out of the fore- head, worse from walking, better from pressing with the hands or bandage ; or a more external tearing, running into the face and temples, or pressing, digging pain in small spots, especially in rheumatic persons and those of an angry, irascible disposition. [Hygea.] Case.—A woman, aet. 30 years, very sensitive and easily frightened ; menstruation formerly irregular, often too copious, now normal ; has for along time suffered from violent headaches, particularly after being subjected to depressing influences.
