Frankfort, De Bry, 1591. 42 Fine tall copy of this second part of the De Bry collection, measuring 13% x 9% ins. This contains the records of three expeditions to Florida, under Jean Ribaut in 1562, René de Laudonniére in 1564, and Dominique de Gourgues in 1567. Accompanying Laudonniére’s expedition was a skilled artist Jacques Le Moyne de Morgues. Both he and Landonniére were fortunate in escaping the massacre by the Spaniards. On their way back.to France their boat was wrecked on the coast of Wales and Le Moyne died in England. His widow ultimately sold his drawings of the natives of Florida and his manu- scripts to the publisher De Bry who had the drawings beautifully engraved and published the work as part two of his famous collection.
