Disinfestation and Disinfection Verminous houses and premises are dealt with satis- factorily by the application of proprietory insecticides. A plague of ants was investigated at the General Hospital and after lengthy treatments was successfully eradicated. The common house fly did not appear to be as prolific as in previous years, although the year 1955 was considered to be a hot and dry one. Precautionary measures were taken as usual however, and household and trade refuse bins were sprayed with insecticides during the early part of the summer. Flood Relief The high level of the waters of the river Tyne on January nth caused serious flooding in a number of houses and prem- ises in the district, including six houses within the adminis- trative area of the Urban Council. Assistance in flood relief was given by the Council and by voluntary organisations.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b29426935_0018.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
