Then while we waited patiently in case his Highness should send for us and not daring to go and present ourselves again before him, one of the Chagatays came and told us that those Grand Chamberlains speaking as from Timur himself now had sent to let us know that we mud immediately make ready to depart on the homeward journey. We should they said set out the very next day at dawn, departing in company with the Ambassador of the Sultan of Egypt and the Ambassa¬ dor from Turkey. Further we learnt that [a certain Tartar lord named] Carvo Tumán Ughlán was ap¬ pointed to accompany us as our guide as far as Tabriz, who would cause rations to be supplied on the way with all that was needful, as also horses to carry us. The Chagatay said also that the Grand Chamberlains were giving orders for our due entertainment in all the cities and camps that we should pass through on the journey, until we came to Tabriz where Prince Omar the grandson of his Highness would receive us, and then send us on, each ambassador severally to his own country. On receiving this message brought by the Chagatay we immediately made our protect urging that as yet his Highness had not granted us our dis¬ missal nor had he given us any answer to the message we had brought him from our lord the King of Caálile, wherefore we said we could not and would not thus go hence. The Chagatay none the less answered us shortly that we had better say no more for everything had been arranged by the Grand Chamberlains. Let us (he said) therefore make all needful preparations for the journey, as likewise (said he), the other ambassadors were already occupied in doing. We however would not, and forthwith repaired to the palace demanding an interview with the Grand Chamberlains.
