If the tumour fuppurate and point externally, it may be treated as a common abcefs, and be opened. If it burft, and the contents fall into the abdomen, a purulent afcites is the confequence. If it ends in a fchirrus, it produces what is called the black jaundice, a difeafe well known by the black lead colour call: upon the countenance, which is generally, therefore, efteemed a dan- gerous fymptom, though in fome in- franc es thought favourable of by Van Sweiten, who relates the cafe of a perfon laboring under this difeafe, who was cured by living upon vegetables only.
